Car accident doctor for the Coolamon Shire: CTP injury care
Last updated , 9 min read

Telehealth lets you see one of our CTP doctors from home in Coolamon, Ganmain or Ardlethan after a crash, without a long drive to Wagga Wagga while you're sore. Where your injuries need a hands-on check, we talk through in-person options with you. The first consultation covers what happened, a careful assessment of your injuries and the Certificate of Fitness your CTP insurer will ask for. From there our doctors set out a treatment plan, which can include physio, psychology or exercise physiology, and keep the records your claim relies on. We also explain how treatment is generally funded under the NSW CTP scheme.
Coolamon Shire is cropping and grazing land, with a few thousand people spread across its three towns and small villages like Beckom, Methul and Rannock. Getting anywhere means a long two-lane drive: Coolamon Road towards Wagga Wagga, the Canola Way out to Marrar and Junee, or the Newell Highway through Ardlethan, where it crosses the Burley Griffin Way. Interstate trucks, grain carriers and harvest machinery use the same roads. For someone injured out here, regular care can be a fair distance away. That's why telehealth reviews suit people who are sore, can't drive yet or are back at work on the farm.

Where people are hurt on the roads in the Coolamon Shire
Crash records for the shire are small in number but consistent. Of the injury crashes in Transport for NSW crash data from 2020 to 2024, more than four in five were in zones signed at highway speeds. The Newell Highway was the road named most often, ahead of the Canola Way, Coolamon Road and Ardlethan Road, and Ardlethan and Coolamon were the most common localities. Heavy vehicles featured in roughly a quarter of these crashes, and nearly a third took place after dark. Almost half of the people injured or killed were recorded by police as seriously injured. Collisions at these speeds can cause neck and back strain, fractures and concussion, which is the mix our doctors expect to assess after a crash on these roads.

First steps
After a crash in the Coolamon Shire: getting checked and recorded

See a doctor soon, even if your injuries seem minor. Pain after a jolt at highway speed on the Canola Way or Coolamon Road can build later, and an early medical record helps your claim. If police didn't come out to the crash, call them, report it and ask for the event number. Get the other vehicle's rego and driver details, be it a local ute or a grain truck, and take photos only from somewhere safe. Your CTP claim goes to the insurer of the at-fault vehicle, and our doctors can complete the Certificate of Fitness that insurer needs.
Get safe, then get help
Call 000 if anyone is seriously hurt or in danger. For police attendance when it isn't an emergency, the Police Assistance Line is 131 444.
Report it and keep the event number
Report the crash to police if anyone was hurt, a driver left the scene or a car was towed. Keep the event number: the claim form asks for it.
Swap details and take photos
Get names, phone numbers, licence details and registration plates from every driver, and witnesses' details before they leave. Photograph the scene when it's safe.
See a doctor early
Ideally within a day or two, even if you feel fine. Pain often builds over the following days. An early appointment records your injuries and starts your Certificate of Fitness.
Which CTP insurer handles your claim
You claim with the CTP (green slip) insurer of the vehicle most at fault, worked out from its registration. If that vehicle can't be identified, the claim may go to the Nominal Defendant.
Lodge the claim form
The form is the Application for Personal Injury Benefits, backed by your Certificate of Fitness. Our step-by-step lodging guide walks through it.
Time limits
A claim served within 28 days of the accident can have benefits backdated to the accident date. A common reference point for lodging is three months from the accident. Your circumstances can change the dates, so confirm yours with SIRA or a solicitor.
CTP injury care
Car accident injury care for the Coolamon Shire: your first appointment

In a shire this spread out, it's easy to put off seeing anyone after a crash, especially during harvest. Early assessment matters, because the insurer looks to the medical record to link injuries to the accident. At the first visit, we hear how the crash unfolded, examine each injury, fill in the Certificate of Fitness, sketch a treatment path and begin the record your claim rests on. Telehealth means you can be seen from a farmhouse near Methul or a kitchen in Ardlethan. After high-speed crashes and truck collisions, we expect to see whiplash, back injuries, fractures, head knocks and the anxiety that can follow a frightening crash. The CTP insurer generally pays for treatment that is reasonable and necessary for your accident injuries; it decides what's approved, and its decisions can be reviewed. If your claim runs into a dispute, we can point you to independent legal help.
Our CTP doctors see people injured in motor vehicle accidents across NSW. The first appointment does four jobs, and each one feeds the claim:
A proper assessment
The doctor takes a history of the crash, examines you and records a diagnosis for each injured area, including the ones that seem minor today.
Your Certificate of Fitness
The main medical document in a NSW CTP claim. It records your injuries, your capacity for work and what you can and can't do. The first one must come from a medical practitioner, and each one generally covers up to 28 days, so it's renewed as you recover. See what a Certificate of Fitness should include.
A treatment plan
What you need next, such as physiotherapy, psychology or exercise physiology, with clear reasons the insurer can act on.
The records the insurer asks for
Dated notes, referrals and reports that link your symptoms to the crash. Insurer decisions lean on them, so they need to be specific.

Common injuries after crashes in the Coolamon Shire
Every crash is different, but some injuries come up again and again after car crashes. Many don't show their full extent on the day:
- Whiplash and other neck injuries, common after rear-end collisions.
- Back injuries and other soft-tissue injuries: sprains and strains that stiffen over the following days.
- Fractures: most are obvious, but some in the wrist, foot or ribs are subtle and need imaging to confirm.
- Concussion and headaches, which can happen without a direct blow to the head.
- Psychological injury, such as anxiety about driving, poor sleep or flashbacks.
Our guide to car accident injuries and their symptoms covers the warning signs.

CTP benefits
What CTP pays for, and weekly payments
Approved treatment is generally arranged through the CTP scheme rather than paid by you directly. Depending on your injuries, it can include:
- Appointments with our CTP doctors, and specialist care where it's needed.
- Physiotherapy, psychology and exercise physiology with our allied health team.
- X-rays, scans and other imaging when they're clinically justified.
- Medication prescribed for your accident injuries.
- Reasonable travel to approved treatment, where the insurer agrees. Check its process first.
If your injuries stop you working, or cut your hours, weekly payments may be paid where the scheme rules allow. The amount is based on your pre-accident earnings, it steps down at set points, and there's a cap. Your Certificate of Fitness records your capacity for work, so keep it current. Being mostly at fault, or having an injury classified as minor, shortens how long some benefits run. See CTP weekly payments, minor vs non-minor injury and CTP benefits in NSW.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, for most first consultations. Our doctors see people across NSW by telehealth, so you can talk through the crash, have your injuries assessed and get your Certificate of Fitness from home. Should your injuries call for a physical exam or a scan, we'll say so and help you work out the closest practical place to have it done from Beckom. Follow-up reviews can usually stay on telehealth, which saves a long drive while you're still sore.
No. Delayed neck and back pain is common after a crash, particularly a sudden jolt at highway speed. See a doctor as soon as you notice it so the injury is examined and linked to the accident in your records. One of our doctors can check your neck by video from home, write it up, and handle the Certificate of Fitness plus a plan for your care. The scheme sets time limits, so get seen now instead of waiting out harvest hoping it settles.
Often it does, when physio is reasonable and necessary for your accident injuries. The insurer makes that call, not us, and you can ask for a review if it says no. Our physios work from the treatment plan your doctor sets, and we send the insurer the reports it needs to consider each request. Sessions can often mix telehealth with a home exercise program, which cuts down the drive from Ardlethan.
No. You can book before you've lodged a claim. The Certificate of Fitness from your first appointment is one of the documents your claim needs, so the appointment often comes first.
